Binghamton Restaurant Week is going into the books as another big success.

The discount dining event draws new patrons to Binghamton restaurants, including local residents who have taken the opportunity to try establishments they haven't tried before.

One such bistro may be Tranquil on Pine Street, tucked back near the Broome County main library.

The cuisine is sophisticated and inventive, which may be a surprised given the eclectic appearance of the restaurant.

Perhaps as a starter, try the shrimp cous cous salad or shrimp bisque, followed by a main course of a generous portion of seared salmon topped with a seafood mousse, pureed roasted red bell pepper (romesco sauce) and wilted baby spinach,  served over the larger-grain Israeli cous cous.

Dessert may be cheese cake with a choice of topping or, perhaps, a slice of pumpkin cake.

Tranquil Bar and Bistro is another hidden fine dining experience in Binghamton, tucked off the beaten path but well worth checking out.

While restaurant week may be over, there is always an opportunity to explore the diverse dining experiences possible in the area and at reasonable prices.
