The person you pass in the store, in a park, at the bus terminal just might be homeless in need of help getting back on their feet.

Appearing on the December 12 edition of the local weekly public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, Director of the Binghamton Rescue Mission, Michael Ross talks about the often unseen face of the homeless in the Binghamton area.

Ross says there are still many misconceptions about homelessness and the Rescue Mission has even recently assisted a man who had a college degree and once held a good job.

Ross says many circumstances can lead to homelessness.

The Rescue Mission's Whitney Place in Binghamton not only offers shelter and meals for men in transition but assists with life skills, counseling and support.

Services are funded a number of ways including through donations, proceeds from Thrifty Shopper stores and events like the Freeze Out 5K that will be taking place in February.
