Investigators are hoping surveillance video will help them find the person who spray-painted graffiti on a vehicle parked at a business on Binghamton's West Side.

City police on Thursday posted a recording showing the crime in progress. Detectives are trying to identify the suspect in the incident that happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. May 21.

In the half-minute-long clip, someone is seen defacing a white van next to the West Side Launderette at 79 Main Street.

The vandal approaches from Walnut Street and spends about 20 seconds scrawling graffiti on the side of the vehicle.

About half-way through the act, what appears to be a city police patrol car is seen traveling west on Main Street. The vandal was on the other side of the parked van and could not be seen from the passing vehicle.

Police say people with information about the suspect or the incident may contact the detective bureau at 607.772.7080.
