A Binghamton police department patrolman and an 81-year-old man were injured in two-vehicle crash near the downtown governmental plaza.

Authorities say the collision happened just after 7:40 p.m. November 2 at the intersection of Hawley and Isbell streets.

Investigators say a Binghamton police vehicle driven by Patrolman Matthew Hodnik was responding to a call at the time of the crash.

Detectives say the police car was eastbound on Hawley Street with its emergency lights and siren activated when it collided with the second vehicle.

Hodnik was treated at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City and released. Police say the other driver was taken to a hospital by family members.

The police car came to rest at the entrance to the Broome County Courthouse. Crews were working to clean up debris and make repairs at the crash scene November 3.

The man who was driving the other car was issued a ticket for failure to yield.
