Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]A bicycle-riding man who detectives believe was dealing drugs on Binghamton's West Side was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.

Authorities say 51-year-old Kenneth Williams Jr. of Bennett Avenue was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and evidence tampering.

Police say Community Response Team officers noticed Williams riding a bike through West Side neighborhoods October 14. He was observed "engaging in suspicious activity" with another man.

Investigators say the behavior led police to suspect the men were involved in "street-level narcotics trafficking."

Williams fled when officers tried to stop him. Police say he abandoned his bicycle and ran away.

Officers chased Williams through several yards. He eventually was found hiding between two houses on Leroy Street.

Police say when Williams was trying to elude officers, he dropped some heroin, crack cocaine and a drug known as "Molly."

Williams was arraigned in Binghamton City Court and sent to Broome County Jail.
