Binghamton City Council is taking a few days to get more information about the recently vetoed project labor agreement before launching an override attempt.

The measure was removed from The December 9 agenda at the request of organizations that asked Council for more time to prepare information for the lawmakers on the proposal.

The PLA would have work at the Binghamton/ Johnson City Joint Sewage Treatment Plant directed exclusively to contractors employing union workers.

In vetoing the agreement approved November 18 by City Council, Mayor Richard David said neither a PLA nor an open-bid process would guarantee local labor would be used on the repairs and upgrades to the sewer plant but the open-bid route would provide a more even playing field.

City Council, with a one-member Democrat majority, would need five votes to override.

David vetoed the legislation November 30 and Council had 30 days from that date to try for an override.
