Binghamton officials say the city is recruiting school crossing guards. They say there's a "high need" for people to help assist children on their way to and from school.

Crossing guards must be at least 18 years old and have their own transportation. They also must pass a drug test and a criminal background check.

The guards work two shifts on days when school is in session. They're on duty from 7:10 to 8:30 in the morning and from 2:30 to 3:45 in the afternoon.

The crossing guards receive $27 a day with a $25 bonus when they work all 10 days in a two-week pay periods.

Those interested in applying may fill out an application at the Civil Service office on the fifth floor at Binghamton City Hall.

Prospective guards also may call the police traffic division at 607.772.7095 for additional information.
