A Binghamton native, who made it big in Hollywood making film special effects will be laid to rest in Broome County.

Joseph Wallikas passed away in Los Angeles December 2 at the age of 91.

He was responsible for the burning fuse at the opening of “Mission Impossible”, making Superman fly and shrinking everyone in “Honey I Shrunk the Kids.”

According to his obituary, Wallikas was orphaned at a young age and worked at Ansco as a teen before moving to California to pursue his dream of working in the film industry.

A Funeral Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. December 12 at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Binghamton.
