The city of Binghamton's next comptroller has been Tioga County's chief accountant and budget officer.

Mayor Richard David today announced he has chosen Clarence Shager Jr. for the post of comptroller.

According to the City Hall announcement, before Shager joined Tioga County government, he was corporate controller for The Matco Group of Vestal.

Shager will replace former city comptroller Charles Pearsall. The mayor's office indicated Pearsall will become business manager for the Binghamton-Johnson City Joint Sewage Treatment Plant.

Shager is to start work on Monday. The position's annual salary is $68,793.
