Mayor Richard David doesn't believe his predecessor will try to force him out of Binghamton City Hall.

Former mayor Matthew Ryan has said he intends to move back to the city soon. In a recent interview, Ryan said he plans to get involved in local politics and he wouldn't rule out the possibility that he would run again for the office he held for eight years.

Ryan could not run in 2013 because of a new city term limit law.

David lost to Ryan in a three-way race for mayor in 2009. David this week was asked about the prospect of facing Ryan in a rematch next year.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, David said: "I don't think he's that crazy and I'm certainly not that lucky."

The mayor said Ryan won in 2009 because there was a "spoiler" third candidate in the race.

David said he "barely had been sworn in" as mayor before Ryan moved out of Binghamton to the Ithaca area. He said Ryan "hasn't been here for the last four years paying taxes, supporting community events, being an active member of this community."

Ryan has said he and his wife moved to Tompkins County to be closer to her place of employment.

During the radio interview, David made it clear he intends to seek a second term in 2017.
