Binghamton Man is Guilty of Attempted Murder
Sentencing is set for February for a Binghamton man accused of repeatedly stabbing his girlfriend, causing serious injuries.
City police found Ralph Townsend in August 2012 in his second-floor apartment at 6 Miles Street in the First Ward.
Authorities say a police captain shot Townsend twice in the back as the man was in bed, on top of a woman, stabbing her.
Officers had kicked in the door of the locked apartment after a woman screamed: "He's got a knife to my throat!"
Investigators say the woman sustained four stab wounds in the attack.
The 54-year-old Townsend was charged of attempted murder, assault and weapon possession.
