Julio Belcher-Cumba was sentenced in Broome County Court to nine years in prison for first-degree attempted robbery, a violent felony. He also was given five years post-release supervision.

Authorities had said Belcher-Cumba was the suspect in an early-morning hoverboard heist near Main and Chapin streets.

Police at the time said as many as four shots were fired toward the hoverboard owner, although no injuries were reported in the incident.

Belcher-Cumba was taken into custody several hours after the robbery in the area of Lake Avenue and Tracy Street in the city's First Ward. Police said he had a loaded .32 caliber pistol when he was found by officers.

Belcher-Cumba initially was charged with felony and criminal possession of a weapon.
