A Binghamton man is in jail after he was charged in connection with the stabbing of his wife.

Police say they responded to 17 Market Street shortly after 9 p.m. on Sunday night.  Upon arrival they discovered a female victim with minor injuries from a knife.

The suspect, 39-year-old Esteban Valdes, was located and arrested by Johnson City Police a short distance away while he was fleeing on foot.

Valdes allegedly stole his wife's purse, which contained her credit cards, following the assault.

Police say the victim had an order of protection against her husband.  She was treated for her injuries at a local hospital.

Valdes is charged with one count each of Aggravated Criminal Contempt, Tampering with Physical Evidence, 2nd Degree Assault, and Grand Larceny, all felonies.  He was arraigned in the Town of Dickinson Court and was sent to the Broome County Jail without bail.
