A Binghamton man faces up to 40 years in prison for receiving a package of heroin mailed from India.

52 year old Edward Ciarlegio pleaded guilty this month in connection with a conspirace to receive then distribute hundreds of grams of heroin worth around $50,000.

Federal prosecutors, working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials discovered five bags containing 272 grams of heroin on arrival in the United States.

An undercover Postal Inspector posing as a mail carrier delivered the package to Ciarlegio who then called a man he called 'Jaypee', asking him to 'take care of' the package.

Ciarlegio admitting taking sole possession of the package with the intention of being paid by Jaypee for the drugs.
