The City of Binghamtonis outlining a number of actions focusing on flood hazard mitigation.

Included in the plans are flood wall repairs, including the conduits that penetrate the flood wall system, sewer upgrades, modification to pump stations and help in moving residents in flood prone areas to safer sites.

Some residents in those areas have said they want the City to consider other options before starting to buy properties and move people.

U.S Senator Charles Schumer of New York recently announced the Federal Emergency Management Agency had okayed another $563,764 to repair flood walls at the Binghamton/ Johnson City Joint Sewage Treatment Plant from damage in the 2006 flooding.

After a year-long review, FEMA decided the money that had been deducted from an original grant had been done so incorrectly and will be restored.

FEMA has allocated over $1.6 million dollars to address flood damage at the sewer plant.
