Binghamton city councilmembers are expected to award federal grant money to several agencies for programs targeted to young people and seniors.

City planning, housing and community development director Tarik Abdelazim says the money for the programs would come from the Community Development Block Grant award the city receives from Washington.

Lawmakers are considering $125,000 in appropriations. Most of that has been earmarked for youth programs.

The allocation of grant money is based on a competitive process and recommendations from the Community Development Advisory Committee.
