Members of a Broome County pipe band are being recognized for their contributions to the region over the past decade.Binghamton Mayor Richard David issued a proclamation honoring the Edward P. Maloney Memorial Pipe Band.

The band is named in honor of a founder and charter member of the New York Police Department Emerald Society Pipe and Drum Band.

The pipe major for the local band is Maloney's son, Richard, who is a Binghamton firefighter.

The Maloney Memorial Pipe Band was formed in 2005. It now has 30 bagpipers, 25 drummers and 10 color guard members.

The band performs at funerals of fallen officers and at various events around the region, including Binghamton's Saint Patrick's Parade. This year's parade is to be held March 7.
