Motorists in the Binghamton area are paying about a dollar gallon less for gasoline now than they were a year ago.

The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report shows pump prices have been falling steadily in recent weeks.

The average cost of gas locally has dropped by nearly 20 cents a gallon in the past month.

This week, two gas stations in Endwell were running "gas sales" with the posted cash price at $2.519 a gallon.

Industry analysts say gasoline prices nationally are expected to continue dropping in the months ahead. One forecast suggested prices may fall another 15 cents a gallon in the next few weeks.

As pump prices have plunged during the summer driving season, the demand for gas has started to rise. Fuel use in the United States last month was about six percent higher than a year earlier.
