Concrete was pumped to the upper levels of the crumbling city-owned facility Tuesday.

The patching work was being done because of concern about what could happen in the event of snowfall in the days ahead.

A city hall spokesman said some "quite large" openings were made in portions of the parking ramp while repair work was being done over the summer.

Engineers determined the holes should be filled in even though the garage now is scheduled to close in several days.

With the condition of the lower levels of the garage, the experts retained by the city concluded additional weight posed by any snow could pose a problem.

Mayor Richard David has announced plans to permanently close the garage effective November 9.

National Weather Service forecasters on Tuesday afternoon indicated there were no signs of accumulating snow in the next several days.

The facility at the corner of Hawley and State streets is to be demolished in the spring .
