A half-million dollar parking ramp demolition project is continuing in downtown Binghamton.

Crews began tearing down the Collier Street garage on July 25. The massive job is expected to continue for several more weeks.

The project appears to be approaching the midway point. Several Gorick Construction workers are methodically removing the concrete and steel from the structure.

After the garage is gone, a parking lot will be opened at the site.

City officials are hoping the site will provide opportunities for future development but no specific proposals have been discussed publicly.

Some traffic restrictions remain in place while the demolition work proceeds.
