The City of Binghamton's finances appear to be improving and that could better the City’s position when it comes to seeking money for major projects like fixing infrastructure.

An independent audit of City finances shows a general fund surplus of $15.69 million in 2014, up from a balance of $9.78 million in 2013.

The Water Fund balance also grew from $498,121 in 2013 to $1.94 million for 2014

Deficits for the Binghamton, Johnson City Joint Sewage Treatment Plant also dropped by close to $2 million.

Mayor Richard David says he’s still working to upgrade the City’s bond rating to AAA and to address some discrepancies that had been cited in the Community Development Block Grant allocations prior to 2014.
