Binghamton Discovery Center Celebrates 30 Years
The Discovery Center of the Southern Tier is launching its 30th anniversary celebration with a birthday party this weekend.
The hands-on interactive children's museum on Binghamton's South Side will present a series of special events from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Discovery Center executive director Margaret Crocker and special programs coordinator Cheryl Dutko visited the Binghamton Now studio Thursday to preview the birthday program.
Dutko, who wore an appropriate hat, noted the celebration will have a Dr. Seuss theme.
"Seussical" crafts and activities will be held throughout the day Saturday.
Turtle races are scheduled at noon and a presentation of "All Things Seussical" by STAR (Southern Tier Actors Read) will take place at 1:00.
Those on hand will sing "Happy Birthday" to the Discovery Center at 1:30. That will be followed by the cutting of the birthday cake.
Other events marking the 30th anniversary will be held at the center over the next few months.
The Discovery Center is located at 60 Morgan Road.
