With the annual Binghamton Thanksgiving Day Community Dinner a little over a month away, students and staff at Binghamton High School are putting the final touches on their preparations, including appealing for donations to help pay for the food.

BHS Honor Society President, Katherine Dura and Senior, Hira Qayyum, speaking on the October 19 edition of the local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up say monetary donations are needed, not food or supplies.

Last year, Dura says, about 2,000 diners were served at the high school, a number that has grown with the addition of shuttle service. In addition, each child at the dinner received a book or a toy.

While Dura reflects on her experiences over the past several years, this is the first dinner for Qayyum.

The dinner will be served to anyone who wants to come, regardless of their economic or social status, on Thanksgiving Day, November 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Checks can be made out to: BHS Thanksgiving Dinner, 31 Main Street, Binghamton, NY 13905, attention Jean Klein, BHS Honor Society.

Southern Tier Close Up airs Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
