The City of Binghamton is giving notice to property owners that code enforcement officers are going block to block looking for violations.

The first of the code enforcement sweeps began on the east side April 26.

The City says May 10th, the First Ward will be targeted, May 25th: the South Side, June 15 the West Side, June 29th: downtown and July 13th: the North Side.

Mayor Richard David says neglected properties bring down neighborhoods and can attract crime.

There have been thousands of citations written over the past few years under regular code sweeps with the majority brought into compliance without criminal court action.

Violations can include everything from garbage and high grass to unsafe sidewalks and exterior property conditions.
