Binghamton Cable System Adds Al Jazeera America

Bob Joseph/WNBF News

Time Warner Cable television customers in the Binghamton area may now see a news channel that started operations nearly four months ago.

Al Jazeera America launched in August but the all-news outlet was not carried by the local cable system until Friday.

The channel now is part of the Time Warner Cable news line-up.

The two companies had negotiated for months before a carriage agreement was finalized.

Qatar-based Al Jazeera acquired the struggling Current TV channel in the United States last January. Time Warner dropped the channel from its systems shortly after the deal was announced.
