Drivers traveling through Binghamton should be prepared for additional rolling slowdowns on Route 17 and Interstate 81 this week.

According to the New York State Department of Transportation, more rock blasting is planned over the next several days.

One blast is expected each day, Tuesday through Friday. The operations may be delayed or postponed due to weather conditions.

Blasts are scheduled for 11 a.m. each day. Fifteen minutes before each planned blast, rolling slowdowns administered by State Police can be expected on the highways.

Some highway ramps will be closed briefly while the excavation work is underway.

Local traffic on surface streets adjacent to the work zone also will be affected. Flag personnel will be positioned on Prospect Street and LaGrange Street to stop drivers until the blasting has been completed.
