Binghamton Bearcats Women Make Huge Comeback for Road Win

WNBF News/ Roger Neel Photo

Down by 17 points in the second half the Binghamton Bearcats women’s basketball team staged a record-tieing comeback last night to defeat the UMass Lowell River Hawks 65-64 in America East action in Lowell.  The 17-point deficit ties Binghamton’s largest comeback in the team’s Division I history.  The Bearcats rallied from a similar deficit to  defeat Boston University in the quarterfinal round of the America East Tournament in 2007 at the Events Center.

A Binghamton 19-4 run midway through the second half got the Bearcats back into contention.  The game-winning basket came from sophomore Morgan Murphy  with a layup with only 20 second left in regulation.

Forward Sherae Swinson paced Binghamton scorers with 20 points while guard Vaneeshia Paulk added 14 points in the win.  Lindsey Doucette led the River Hawks with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

The victory evens Binghamton’s record at 1-1 in America East action.  The River Hawks fall to 0-2.  Next up for the Bearcats is a home game versus the Maine Black Bears on Saturday at 2 PM.  That game will be followed by the men’s game against UMass Lowell at 4:30 PM.  It is Coaches vs Cancer day with both Bearcats’ coaches making personal pledges for points scored by their team that day.  In addition there will be informational displays available for all fans from the American Cancer Society.
