The Binghamton Bearcats lost a doubleheader today to the Maine Black Bears at the Bearcats Sports Complex by scores of 4-3 and 13-7...the latter in 10 innings.

After a win yesterday Binghamton was looking to move up even further in the America East standings against the number one team in the conference.  In game one today BU took it right to the wire before losing 4-3.  Maine's Brian Doran hit a home run to give the Black Bears the decision.

In the nightcap Binghamton starter Jay Lynch got in trouble early and the Bearcats trailed 5-1 in the sixth inning.  BU was able to tie the game at 5-5 in the ninth inning.  But, in the tenth frame Maine's offense exploded with eight runs on seven hits sending 13 batters to the plate.  BU responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the tenth but it was not enough as Maine completed the sweep.

Despite the pair of defeats the Bearcats clinched a playoff spot in the America East Championship tournament in Lowell, Mass on May 22-25.  Maine's record goes to 18-8 in AE play while the Bearcats are 14-12 with another weekend of regular season competition set at Albany next Saturday and Sunday.  Stony Brook (13-14) and Hartford (12-15) have also clinched conference playoff slots.
