The Binghamton Bearcats softball team can win the America East regular season softball championship today when they host the Albany Great Danes at the Bearcats Sports Complex at Noon .

Yesterday the Bearcats won the first game of a doubleheader 3-1 but lost the nightcap 3-2.  The winner of today's game captures the AE championship.  Going into the game Albany has a half-game edge over the Bearcats.

BU was looking for a sweep yesterday which would have clinched the title but in game two Albany jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the Bearcats and starting pitcher Rhode Marsteller.  Tiffany McIntosh unloaded a two-run home run in the fourth inning to cut the lead for the Great Danes to a run but BU was shutout the rest of the way.

BU is already assured of hosting next week's America East Tournament.  Even if Albany wins today, the Great Danes have deferred hosting the event due to excessive maintenance needed on their home field.
