Binghamton Bearcats Basketball Earns Split

Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams were on the road today.  At the University at Buffalo BU got its first win of the season 65-60 over the Bulls.  Four Bearcats scored in double figures.  Forward Sherae Swinson and guard Jasbriell Swain notched 11 points each.  Guard Vaneeshia Paulk and forward Morgan Murphy each hit for 10 points.  BU was also dominant on the boards with a 43-29 margin. The Bearcats are home on Monday night to host Niagara at 7 PM (650 on News Radio 1290 WNBF).

In Smithfield, Rhode Island the Bryant Bulldogs rolled by the BU men 78-56.  Guard Dyami Starks, a transfer from Columbia University, torched the Bearcats for 25 first half points hitting  6 of 7 three point shots along the way. That led Bryant to a 51-30 halftime advantage.

In the seond half the Bearcats played improved as Bryant only outscored BU 27-26 in the second 20 minutes.  However, the damage was already done and Binghamton could not make a run to make it close.

Once again freshman Jordan Reed led the Bearcats with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Senior guard Jimmy Gray hit four three-point shots and ended with 14 points for Binghamton.

Junior Roland Brown also played well for BU hitting for nine points and seven rebounds before fouling out late in the game.  Chipping in with seven points was senior forward Taylor Johnston.

Next up for the Binghamton men is a trip to Ann Arbor to play the Michigan Wolverines who are currently undefeated and ranked third in the nation.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7 PM  Tuesday
