The Binghamton Bearcats defeated the regular season champion Maine Black Bears 4-0 today to win the America East Baseball Championship at the University of Rhode Island. With the win the Bearcats are assured of an NCAA Tournament bid.  The NCAA will announce pairings for the first round of the national playoffs tomorrow on ESPNU at noon.

Sr. Jake Lambert threw eight shutout innings for the win.  Lambert gave up just five hits and struck out seven.  Lambert tossed a complete game shutout to lead the Bearcats to an opening night victory over Albany.  For his combined efforts Lambert was named the Most Outstanding player of the tournament.

Also earning all-tournament team honors for the Bearcats were Daniel Nevares, David Schanz and Shaun McGraw.  Nevares went 2-5 at the plate with a pair of RBI's  in the title game.

The Bearcats are 30-23 with today's win. It is the second BU America East Championship for Coach Tim Sinicki.  The Bearcats also won the title in 2009.
