Binghamton detectives are trying to find the person responsible for a fire that caused heavy damage to a West Side apartment building.

The April 6 blaze at 126 Murray Street left about ten people homeless.

Police and fire investigators have determined the incident was a case of arson.

Fire department Captain Timothy Dahulich said the fire originated in a mattress outside the back of the three-story building.

No injuries were reported in the fire, which caused extensive damage to the rear portion of the five-apartment structure.
