President Obama's town hall meeting at Binghamton University played to favorable reviews from the region's elected officials who were there.

Broome County Executive Debra Preston said she was pleased the president visited the university. She said she's also glad that he seems serious about trying to take steps to make college more affordable and help keep student debt from escalating.

Binghamton Mayor Matthew Ryan said he had an opportunity to chat briefly with Obama before the town hall session. The mayor said he gave a presidential aide a letter that outlined some of his views on important issues facing the United States.
