Investigators are looking into the cause of a fire March 9 that heavily damaged a two family home on Burr Avenue in the City of Binghamton.

Two residents in the home were able to escape after fire broke out on the second floor at around 1:30 p.m.  Several pet cats and a rabbit, however, died in the fire.

Fire officials say they had a problem battling the blaze when one of the fire hydrants on the street was found to be inoperable.

The second floor of the house has been deemed uninhabitable and damage extended through the attic and the whole building suffered structural damage.
