A big change is coming to the annual Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally, looking to boost attendance.

The Broome County Legislature has voted to waive the long-time ban on any alcoholic beverages at Otsiningo Park to allow beer and wine to be sold on premises as part of a showcase of New York products, including craft beers and wines.

The consumption of the beverages is to be confined to a designated area, according to organizers.

In addition to allowing the sale and consumption of alcohol as a pitch to draw more people to the festival July 31 to August 2, the festival has increased its entertainment budget as the amount the non-profit group could spend in the past has limited the number of high-quality bands available.

A midway and new family area are also planned.
