Benefit Held for Fallen Owego Firefighter

The family of a fallen Owego firefighter is getting help completing repairs to its flood-damaged home thanks to the support of the Twin Tiers community.A benefit was held February 10th in Owego for the family of Captain Matthew Porcari, who died battling a house fire in Newark Valley January 21st.Captian Porcari had been working on repairs to his home up to the time of his death when a floor collapsed under him as he worked at the burning house last month.In addition to the benfit at the Parkview Restaurant, fellow firefighters remembered Porcari at the 10th annual Firefighters Winter Games at Greek Peak over the weekend.Members of the Owego Fire Department wore patches on their sleeves during the two days of firefighter competion in which Porcari had participated in the past.
