A bee is blamed for a crash that sheered off a utility pole in the Town of Chenango July 16.

30 year old Emily Beston of the Town of Chenango was driving a van on Brotzman road when a bee flew into the vehicle, causing her to lose control and hit a New York State Electric and Gas pole head-on.

Beston, her 3 year old daughter and 5 year old son were all taken to Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in Johnson City for treatment of minor injuries.

No tickets were issued and both children were secured in child safety seats.

Broome County Sheriff's officials took the opportunity to remind residents that the Sheriff's office in conjunction with the Broome County Health Department offer free child seat inspections and installations.  The Health Department Traffic Safety Coordinator can be reached by calling (607) 778-2807.
