The Binghamton Bearcats opened the 2016-17 basketball season on Friday night at the Events Center with a 68-62 win over the Cornell Big Red.  Guard J.C.Show made his first game in a Bearcat uniform a memorable one scoring the team's first five points and leading all scorers with 23.  Show sat out last season after transferring from Bucknell.  He also battled persistent foot problems.  Shaking off the lengthy time since he last played in a game he was everything Binghamton Coach Tommy Dempsey had predicted.

The Bearcats also got standout play from forward Dusan Perovic who worked the inside game well and notched 14 points.  Perovic battled last season after recovering from major knee surgery that prematurely ended his freshman campaign.

The Bearcats trailed 27-24 at the half.  BU also got a boost from the play of Timmy Rose who not only ran the point well but scored six points in 16 minutes of action.  He finished with four assists.

The Bearcats had lost their last two home games against the Big Red.  Next up for the Bearcats is a road game at St. John's on Monday night.  It will be the first time the two will meet in men's basketball.  Airtime is set for 6:15 on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
