The Binghamton Bearcats captured their first America East Regular Season Softball Championship with a doubleheader sweep over the Hartford Hawks at the Bearcats Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.  Binghamton closes the regular season 33-13 overall and 14-3 in America East.  Maine captured second place with a conference record of 12-5.  Finishing third was Albany with a record of 11-5. Stony Brook took fourth place with an 11-6 slate.

With the first place finish the Bearcats are the number one seed in this week's America East Softball Tournament.  The Bearcats host the tournament May 11-14 at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

With the number one seed the Bearcats get a bye on Wednesday which is the opening day of the tournament.  BU plays on Thursday at 11:00 AM and will face the winner of Wednesday's Stony Brook versus UMBC game.  A win in the double elimination tournament puts the Bearcats into the 11:00 AM game on Friday.  The winner of the America East tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
