The Binghamton Bearcats got their first win of the season and the first win for new coach Tommy Dempsey as they defeated the St Peter's Peacocks 62-54 at the Events Center this afternoon.  It is the first Binghamton win over St. Peter's in three meetings.

Freshman standout Jordan Reed stole the show with 17 points and a new school record of 18 rebounds topping the old mark of 17 in a game set by Mahamoud Jabbi vs Hartford on February 16, 2011.  Reed has scored in double figures in all three of his games as a Bearcat.

Forward Roland Brown also had a big part in the win with 15 points and 8 rebounds.  The Bearcats out-rebounded St Peter's 46-35 and shot 43% from the field.  St. Peter's came into the game 3-0 including an opening night win at Rutgers from the Big East.

The Bearcats turned the ball over 10 times in the first half but took care of the ball better in the second 20 minutes committing just 5 turnovers.  Freshman Karon Waller made his first start for the Bearcats in place of the injured Taylor Johnston (ankle sprain).  Waller scored 5 points and had 4 rebounds in 24 minutes of action.

Senior guard Blaise Ffrench from St Peter's led all scorers with 19 points while the Peacocks' Yvon Raymond notched 12 points in a losing effort.

The Bearcats are idle until this Saturday night at 7 when they host Marywood at the Events Center.  Bearcats fans can meet Coach Tommy Dempsey tomorrow (Monday) night when he appears on the Horizons Federal Credit Union Hoop Talk Show with WNBF's Roger Neel at the Riverwalk Bistro, 225 Water Street in Binghamton from 7 - 730 PM.
