The Binghamton Bearcats women's basketball team members were busy collecting awards last night (Friday) at the America East Women's Basketball Banquet held at the Events Center at Binghamton University.  The banquet kicked off the conference's annual post-season tournament hosted by the Bearcats.  Games run through the weekend.  Binghamton is a fifth seed and will meet the fourth seed UMBC in a quarter-final round game at 8:15 tonight (Saturday) with air at 8:00 PM on News Radio 1290 WNBF.

Binghamton head coach Linda Cimino was named the America East Coach of the Year.  The Bearcats were picked to finish last in the America East preseason poll but ended up tied for third place with an 8-8 record.  The Bearcats were 10-3 in home games at the Events Center.

Forward Alyssa James was named the America East Defensive Player of the Year. James sat out last year after transferring from Caldwell University where she played for Coach Cimino.  James rocked America East scoring 14.9 points per game, 7.8 rebounds per game and 2.97 blocks per game (15th in the nation). James also received a spot on the conference's All-Defensive Team and was named Third -Team All-Conference.

Binghamton's leading scorer Imani Watkins was named to the All-Conference Second Team.  The sophomore ranked fifth in America East scoring with 16.1 points per game.

Senior Kim Albrecht earned a pair of awards.  She was named to the All-Academic Team and to the America East All-Conference Third Team.  Albrecht leads the nation in free-throw percentage hitting at a .918 clip.  She averaged 11.9 points per game.

Rebecca Carmody was named to the All-Rookie Team.  She scored 8.2 points per game and was tenth in America East with 6.3 rebounds per contest.
