The UMass Lowell River Hawks withstood a strong second half comeback by the Binghamton Bearcats and handed BU a 74-69 road loss on Sunday afternoon.  The River Hawks led for 37:33 of the game with the Bearcats ahead for just 24 seconds.

Binghamton had to battle back from 13 and 11 point deficits on several occasions  but could not overtake their opponents.  Binghamton trailed by 10 points with 4:05 left in the first half but trimmed the lead to 30-27 at the end of the first half.

Jahad Thomas put the River Hawks on his back out of the gate to start the second half to score three baskets and make two free throws in the first 2:23 of the second half to open the River Hawks lead to 40-34.

The Bearcats got the lead down to three points when J.C.Show made a pair of free throws but four converted free throws in the closing seconds sealed the win for the River Hawks.  Thomas Bruce registered a double-double for the Bearcats scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

With the win the River Hawks up their conference record to 4-9 while the Bearcats drop to 2-11.  Next up for Binghamton is a trip to Burlington to face the top team in America East, the Vermont Catamounts.  Vermont suffered its first conference loss on Sunday falling 69-68 to Hartford.
