The Binghamton Bearcats had their NCAA softball tournament hopes dashed this afternoon when the Albany Great Danes downed BU 5-2 in an elimination game in the America East softball tournament being play at Stony Brook.  The Bearcats lost to the Great Danes 8-7 in the tournament opener.

Binghamton had stayed alive with a 2-1 win over UMBC yesterday.  Today's loss means the Bearcats end the season with a 22-25 record and a third place finish in the conference tourney.  Home runs accounted for both Binghamton runs.  Freshman third baseman Crysti Eichner slammed a homer in the fourth inning.  Then, senior second baseman Jessica Bump hammered a solo shot for BU.

Binghamton starting pitcher Demi Laney took the loss. She completes her season with a record of 14-12.  This marks the third consecutive season that the Bearcats have finished third in the America East Tournament.

Albany advances to face the number-one seed Stony Brook Seawolves tomorrow at 11 AM in the champiosnhip round.  If Albany wins that game the two teams will play again for the title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
