Binghamton's long-time rivals from Albany spoiled the day for the Bearcats in the opening round of the America East Softball Championship Tournament at the Bearcats Sports Complex.  The Great Danes defeated the Bearcats 4-3 in eight innings.

Liz Snow, the America East Player of the Year from Albany,  ripped her 13th home run of the season to tie the game at 3-3 with one out in the top of the seventh inning.  In the eighth inning Albany took the lead on a fielder's choice that scored Sarah Petzold.

Down a run in the home half of the eighth the Bearcats got the first two batters aboard but a double play on a long foul out took the wind out of Binghamton's comeback and the tying run was left stranded at second base.

Sara Herskowitz and Kate Richard each ripped solo home runs for the Bearcats.  With the loss the top-seed Bearcats will move to a loser's bracket game tomorrow at 1:30 PM when they face either Stony Brook or Hartford who are playing in the late game today (Thursday).
