The Binghamton Bearcats gave the Hartford Hawks all they could handle January 7 at the Chase Family Arena.

But, in the end, the veteran Hawks prevailed defeating the Bearcats in men's basketball 69-59.  Binghamton led for much of the first half and trailed 28-24 at the end of the first 20 minutes.

Hartford was able to outscore the Bearcats 41-35 in the second half to secure the victory.  The Hawks used an inside attack with senior forward Mark Nwakamma and five three-pointers in the second 20 minutes to keep the Bearcats at bay.

Binghamton got an excellent effort from freshman Romello Walker who scored 17 points...his best point total as a Bearcat.  He was 8-12 from the floor and hit several mid-range jump shots to keep the pressure on the Hawks.  He scored 13 points at UMass Lowell in a conference opening loss last Friday night.

Also putting in a solid effort was sophomore guard Marlon Beck who scored a season-high 16 points and was 6-10 from the floor.

Next up for BU is a home game January 10 versus the Maine Black Bears.  The game is part of a doubleheader at the Events Center.  The women host Vermont at 12 noon with the men's game following at about 2:15.  Both contests will also be broadcast on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
