The Binghamton Bearcats split a doubleheader today with the Albany Great Danes in Albany.  BU captured a 3-2 win in the first game in 9 innings.  Albany came back to win the nightcap 5-4.  The two teams meet again at 1 PM tomorrow to wrap-up the regular season.

In the first game the Bearcats Bill Bereszniewicz led off the ninth inning with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and then scored the winning run on a wild pitch with two outs.  Greg Ostner got the win in relief.

In the second game BU took a 1-0 lead when Maine-Endwell grad Brian Ruby hit an RBI single in the top of the third inning.  But the Great Danes countered with three in the bottom half of the inning.  Albany then broke a 4-4 tie with a run in the sixth and closed out the win.

With the split the Bearcats are 15-13 in America East while Albany is 16-13.  That assures Albany of the second or third seed in next week's America East Championship Tournament in Lowell, Mass.  The Bearcats can secure the second spot if they defeat Albany tomorrow afternoon.
