In a seldom seen opportunity in the Northeast the Binghamton Bearcats practiced outside this (Wednesday) afternoon on their newly installed artificial turf stadium.  Installation of the new playing surface and lights made possible by a multi-million dollar grant from an anonymous donor has been completed and following weeks of indoor practice Tim Sinicki's team took advantage of a dry day to hit and take infield practice.

The stadium is entirely covered with the field turf surface including the pitching mound and home plate area.  With lights installed as well Binghamton will be able to play night games, host tournaments, practice later and host camps as well as the NYSPHSAA State Championships.

The Bearcats can use the time outdoors.  They open their season next weekend  with a  series in Albuquerque against the University of New Mexico.  The following weekend they travel to Richmond and then from March 3 to 5 they travel to Virginia Tech.

Binghamton fans will get to see the Bearcats in action in their refurbished stadium when BU hosts UMBC in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 8.  That will open Binghamton's home portion of their America East schedule.
