Bearcats Baseball Ends Season

The Binghamton Bearcats baseball team had their season ended over the weekend in the America East Championship Tournament in Lowell, Massachusetts.  The Bearcats earned the number one seed by winning the regular season America East Championship.

Rain plagued much of the championship tournament with numerous delays and games that had to be pushed back because of bad weather.  In the Bearcats' first game the Albany Great Danes handed Binghamton a 7-3 defeat.

Then in the double elimination tournament Binghamton faced the Maine Black Bears on Saturday afternoon.  Maine started out with three runs in the opening inning to take the early lead.  Binghamton battled back and trailed 4-3 in the eighth but the Black Bears rolled up an additional four runs in their half of the ninth and the Bearcats could not respond.  Maine finished with an 8-3 victory.  Jacob Wloszewski started on the mound for Binghamton and worked into the sixth inning when he he left after being struck by a line drive.  At the time the Bearcats were down 4-2.

Binghamton finished the season with an overall record of 30-13.  The Bearcats were looking for their second consecutive America East Championship.  Binghamton has won six America East regular seasons championships in the past 11 seasons.

The UMBC Retrievers won the America East Tournament crown with a 2-1 win over the Maine Black Bears in ten innings.  It is the first title in UMBC program history.
