Dr. Kevin Drumm, President of Broome Community College, today outlined plans for on-campus student housing.  The initial phase of the project is expected to house over 300 students and would include a fitness center and additional classroom space.

The proposed project is expected to attract additional students to BCC .  Dr Drumm says 20 of the 30 community colleges around New York State have dormitories or other forms of on-campus housing.  The facility will be located on the south end of the Library and bordered on the east by the 901 Front Street building which is scheduled for demolition.

All funding for the project will be bonded and be administered by the BCC Foundation. The Foundation raises money and administers funds for Broome Community College.

President Drumm says a design is being worked on with the cost of the project estimated to be 20 million dollars.  Once the funding is secured ground-breaking is expected to be in the Spring of 2013 and be completed in 2014. At that time a second phase of expansion is planned which would include additional dormitory space.
