Some homeless pets are getting help through a legislative grant from New York State.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo announced the $15,000 grant for the BC Humane Society.

Currently, the shelter on Jackson Street in Binghamton houses over 80 animals with a waiting list of dogs and cats looking to be adopted.

The money is to be used for expenses of caring for the animals and maintaining the shelter.

The Humane Society has been looking to raise funds over the past several years with the goal of building a larger shelter in an area that would be out of danger of flooding.
